Colors of the Labradorite

Labradorite has a very distinct color that appears to illuminate from the center. This phenomenon is so unique to this gemstone that this illusion has been termed labradorescence.

While Labradorite are more commonly seen in blue, it actually comes with a wide range of rare colors. Other colors include peacock blue, gold, pale green, or coppery red. There is the Spectrolite, which is a rare kind of Labradorite found in Finland and exhibits a richer range of colors.  A gold and pale champagne-colored one is called a golden Labradorite, and this one is also a rare kind of stone.

How Was Labradorite Used in Ancient Times?

The Labradorite stone is actually relatively new when it comes to being part of the healing gemstones, but it has been used in various legends for years. Actually, it was only discovered in 1770 by the Moravian missionaries in Labrador, Canada. Since then, it became popular in Europe in the 80s and 90s, particularly in France and England.

However, Labradorite has been mentioned in legends prior to this discovery. According to Inuit tribes, a normal stone captured the fire of the Aurora Borealis when it fell from the skies. It’s said to be the reason behind the iridescent color of the Labradorite. This just further added to the Labradorite meaning and association with the extraordinary.

What Are the Healing Properties of Labradorite?

The primary spiritual healing qualities of the Labradorite gemstone are tied to the fact that it allows us to stay grounded while reaching a higher state of mind. Labradorite also has the ability to improve intuition, which can enhance your psychic abilities for better meditation.

Labradorite healing properties are closely related to shamanism, so healing is done by accessing different states of consciousness and bringing its energy to this world. This ties with the Labradorite meaning of being able to tap other realms. Labradorites are the kind of stones that promote self-reflection and introspection. In this way, Labradorite lets you remember important details and helps you move on. You can better ease anxieties from past memories and dreams after fully contemplating on them.

What the Labradorite also does is dispel illusions and help you uncover the root of the problem by increasing intuitive wisdom and intellectual thought. As a result, this helps relieve you of insecurities while empowering and strengthening trust in yourself and the universe.

You should note that just because you are attracted to the blue Labradorite, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the same effect would happen if you’re near the rarer colors. You might have the opposite effect or reaction depending on the person.

Labradorite for Chakra Healing and Balancing

Different gems, stones, and crystals resonate with different chakra centers. These stones influence these chakra points, facilitating good energy flow and promoting a healthier corporeal and spiritual body.

Labradorite has its own form of iridescence that manifests as shades of blue, green, or yellow against a darker base color. This stone is known as the temple of the stars because it infuses light and universal energy to the soul. Because of its unique color and light, Labradorite is particularly known to be very supportive of the Throat, ThirdEye, and Crown Chakras.

The Throat Chakra is the voice of the body, and it is the one that allows the other chakras to be communicated and expressed. It’s located on the neck, just above the collarbone. It is associated with all things related to communication (hearing, speaking, listening), and this applies to both the physical and the psychic ability to communicate.

True to its meaning, the Labradorite and this chakra help speak the truth when balanced. When this chakra is blocked, you may find difficulty in expressing yourself and can even lie. This stone will help with that blockage which is why it is better to wear Labradorite jewelry as high up on your body as you can.

Because of its ability to go beyond realms, this stone also works well with the Third Eye Chakra in unlocking your sixth sense. It also helps connect all three of the upper chakras, with the highest chakra being the Crown Chakra.

Out of the seven chakra points in our body, the 7th chakra point or Crown Chakra is important in that it connects the individual to the universal. The Crown Chakra is where a person’s consciousness is located, but more as a seed of universal energy than a purely personal aspect of a person’s existence.

As the name implies, the Crown Chakra is located on the top of the head and radiates down towards the eyes and infinitely upwards as it connects to the rest of the universe.

A balanced or highly-developed Crown Chakra means that that individual is well-connected to the universal energy that exists in everything in this world. It’s said that if this balance is achieved, the individual would have conquered suffering and even death. But we’re all human, and more often than not, we wouldn’t even know if our Crown Chakra is overactive or underactive.

Though some sources cite that the Crown Chakra cannot be hyperactive, it can be argued that an obvious disconnect from one’s own spirit and material body is a sign of its hyperactivity. In addition, depression, mental fog, fatigue, boredom, and elitism are also considered symptoms of a hyperactive Crown Chakra.

On the other hand, an underactive Crown Chakra is all too common in humans, but this should not hinder us from balancing this important chakra point. It is for this exact purpose that we strive to reach higher consciousness through meditation, yoga, and chakra stones like Labradorite.

Labradorite is called the stone of transformation because it helps strengthen an individual’s resolve and perseverance through any situation. In a way, this stone imparts mental and spiritual fortitude through life’s ever-turning wheel of change. But the list of benefits of Labradorite for the Crown Chakra doesn’t stop there. Labradorite is a powerful supernatural stone in that it enhances psychic abilities. It acts as a protective barrier to keep spiritual energy within while keeping energy vampires and supernatural threats at bay. Some also use this stone to help facilitate contact with entities from a higher energy plane like their spirit guides, guardian angels, and the Divine. Some also use this stone to contact their own higher self.

Labradorite and Zodiac Signs

Labradorite is considered the modern birthstone for those born under the zodiac sign Leo. But even if it’s not a traditional birthstone for particular star signs, it’s definitely helpful for several signs in the zodiac. In particular, Labradorite is very helpful for those born under the Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Pisces, and Taurus star signs.

Leo

Leos (July 23-August 22) are known to be creative, warm-hearted, generous, and cheerful individuals with a passion for life and all its ups and downs. Labradorite can help Leos with their creative pursuits and with careers relating to the arts and sciences. On the other hand, Labradorite can help ground a Leo’s spirit by helping them control their ego and softening their hearts to necessary changes in their lives.

Scorpio

On the other hand, Labradorite is equally helpful for Scorpios (October 23- November 21) who are known to be resourceful, brave, and honest but can also be considered jealous, secretive, and violent at times. Scorpios find fortitude and strength infused into their souls with a Labradorite at hand. At the same time, the protective properties of Labradorite can shield them from particularly draining and triggering encounters that cause them to be distrustful and violent.

Sagittarius

People born under the star sign, Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) can find courage and an opportunity to realize their ideals through Labradorite. Labradorite can also help with their impatient and overactive minds by giving them rest. The stone can also give them an opportunity to level their expectations and keep them on the ground, so to speak.

Pisces

Pisceans (February 19- March 20) are in one way or another connected to the arts, specifically music. They’re compassionate, intuitive, and gentle, but at their worst, they can be fearful, overly trusting, and have a negative inclination towards martyrdom. Labradorite protects Pisceans from relationships that drain them of their emotional energy and enhances their intuition. With Labradorite, those born under the star sign Pisces can flourish spiritually and artistically.

Taurus

Labradorite helps keep the reliable and patient Taurus (April 20- May 20) more open to change. While Tauruses are known to be practical and responsible, it is also known that they wouldn’t sacrifice their stability for anything else. Because of this, they can be stubborn and uncompromising. But keeping a Labradorite stone nearby can help balance their stubbornness and make their hearts more open to the ever-flowing change that we all go through.

Aside from these signs, Labradorite is also associated with Geminis (May 21- June 20), Cancers (June 21- July 22), and to some extent, Libras (September 23- October 22).

Labradorite Birthstone

Labradorite is not considered a traditional birthstone, but that doesn’t stop it from imparting its benefits and blessings to people, especially those born in March. That’s because the color blue has long been associated with the Month of March.

In fact, it’s widely accepted that blue Labradorite is the natural birthstone for those born between February 19- March 19. There’s also a huge significance behind that fact, too. The period between February 19- March 19 ushers in the season of the vernal equinox and the start of spring. This season welcomes life, faith, and trust–all seemingly reflected in the beautiful iridescence of the Labradorite stone. Labradorite helps the people born during this period to be more patient, gracious, and respectful of others.

Aside from that, Labradorite is also known as the birthstone for those born on a Saturday. Since ages past, Labradorite was traditionally worn on Saturdays. Its magnificent colors and stars across its surface were said to be a reflection of the good fortune that would befall the wearer.

Labradorite and the Elements

Stones and crystals differ not only in color, composition, and shape but also in their energy signatures. Each stone and crystal have energies that resonate with different forces and elements. There are stones that are more in tune with the element of fire, while some crystals resonate with and emit the energy of the earth element.

Water and air/wind have always been intimately linked in the metaphysical disciplines. Water and air/wind are two very similar but different forces. These two elements are represented by different colors, are ruled by different planets, and in turn, influence different zodiac signs. These two elements have different personalities, and therefore the type of Labradorite stones associated with them also differ.

Wind/Air

The element of air/wind is the element of intellect, knowledge, mind, and intuition. It’s commonly associated with the color yellow and is ruled by the planet Mercury, named after the Roman god of communication.

Air/wind is also the element of travel and communication. That’s why it’s no surprise that yellow Labradorite represents the air/wind element. It has a masculine vibration and properties that are known to enhance mental and spiritual abilities.

Yellow Labradorite has a distinct, golden solar energy that balances a person’s energy and provides clarity of thought and focus. This is a stone that develops inspiration, improves memory and communication, and ushers in new beginnings and possibilities as well as opportunities for travel and change. Some people even share that yellow Labradorite is a very effective air stone to use in a healing crystal grid layout or in personal crystal altars.

Water

On the other hand, the element of water is associated with the color blue and is known as the element of rebirth, regeneration, and purification. It’s the basis of all life and has cleansing and healing properties. Blue Labradorites are thus known as the stone that represents the circle of life. They are very supportive of one’s life path and career, which means that through every stage of your life, you can count on your blue Labradorite to provide you with balanced energy.

Blue Labradorite also supports one’s pursuit of love and friendship. What’s more, crystals with similar water-element energy like blue Labradorite are also known to induce healing, especially emotional healing. They help mend relationships, bring peace, and find new friends.

On a universal scale, blue Labradorite helps connect and deepen one’s relationship with the universe. This strengthens one’s love for everything and anything on this plane as well as other planes. On a supernatural level, blue Labradorite also induces lucid dreams and strengthens one’s divination powers.

Labradorite and Numerology

Crystals and stones are sometimes associated with numerology. Each stone has a specific vibrational frequency that can be calculated through numerology.

So, what are vibrational frequencies? This is the energy that manifests from a stone or crystal. It’s what allows a stone or a crystal to be used during healing sessions. It’s the force that manipulates the energy in the human body, and it’s undeniable that different stones attune to different parts of the body. Some stones are subtle, while others are just buzzing with energy and activity. Knowing the vibrational energy of a stone is especially helpful if you want to be accurate in your practice of the healing arts.

The numerology method for obtaining the vibrational frequency of a stone uses the English name of that particular stone. In numerology, each letter in the alphabet has a particular number assigned to it — and so people just need to add up the numbers in that crystal’s name until it reaches a single digit (this rule has a few exceptions). The number that arises from the procedure is known as that stone’s vibrational frequency.

While some believe that using the numerology method for obtaining the vibrational frequency of a stone is accurate, it doesn’t account for crystals that are used in different cultures and have, therefore, different names. Some sources, like the Hibiscus Moon website, argue that a more scientific approach in determining a crystal’s vibrational frequency will yield more accurate and better results. This involves measuring the crystal’s frequency in Hertz.

No matter which method is more comfortable or available to you, however, it’s good to know about Labradorite and the numbers that it is known to resonate with, which are 6 and 7.

What Energy Does the Number 6 Resonate With?

In numerology, the number 6 is known as the Caretaker. Almost all numerologists agree that the number 6 is the most harmonious and easy to get along with out of all the single-digit numbers. It’s also known as the first perfect number as it balances the material and spiritual aspects of our lives.

Motherhood energy emanates from this number as it’s also known to be of a loving and caring nature. It loves deeply, often sacrificing itself to heal, protect, and teach. Why does it sacrifice so much? Because it’s full of sympathy. It knows how much things hurt, and it does what it can for others so they won’t have to be hurt. And because it’s a number that gives so much love, it also aspires for pure and unconditional love. It knows we’re all connected and is conscious of the world around it.

However, sometimes, it can also be too involved, intrusive, and meddling. In other words, this is a number that gives too much of itself. And because of that, it’s known negatively as a martyr. Number 6 can be jealous, close-minded, and nitpicks small details while ignoring the bigger picture.

Because of its susceptibility to being hurt in this imperfect world, the Number 6 must find balance in its life—focusing on their internal, spiritual life, while connecting and expanding outwards. It’s also said that when this number is seen often, it’s a message to not hold fears about your material situation.

What Energy Does the Number 7 Resonate With?

On the other hand, the number 7 is known as the Seeker. People who associate with the number 7 are seekers of the Truth. They’re characterized by their introverted nature and are often shy (but not without self-esteem). They’re intellectuals who dream of big things for themselves and the world. They’re also spiritual but not necessarily religious.

People who are connected to the number 7 are known for their thirst for knowledge and being very rational. Sure, they’re loners, but when given the chance, they’re opinionated and make sure their opinions are backed by facts. They’re highly introspective and are always in touch with their deeper purpose in life.

But the downside to these people is that they’re prone to morbidity, depression, and inactivity. The paradox that exists for Number 7 is that they know facts. They’re wise, but this wisdom disconnects them from the world sometimes, and it makes them highly self-righteous and unwilling to compromise.

But at their best, these people who associate with the number 7 resonate with the collective consciousness and are in touch with their spiritual faculties. They’re definitely on a journey to spiritual awakening and enlightenment, but not without challenges.

Labradorite and Planetary Connection

Uranus is a planet that rules our higher minds, our higher selves. It’s the planet that connects us to the infinite intelligence of the universe, and even beings of other planes. It’s a planet that awakens our human spirit and brings forth change that is progressive and liberating.

In astrology, it governs the unseen aspects of our lives. This means that this planet forces you to look beyond your bubble of corporeal vision and look with the lens of belief and faith.

On the other hand, if this planet rules one of your houses in your natal chart, it can indicate that you want to shake off responsibilities and remain eternally youthful.

As the ruling planet of Labradorite, Uranus definitely infuses its energy for change into the stone, which in turn imparts it to the bearer of the stone.

This combo also relieves stress and anxiety

Labradorite and Feng Shui

Labradorite gemstones have this wonderful effect of increasing good luck and wealth, and it’s likely because this stone is associated with the Water element in Feng Shui. This element is about stillness and purification as well as the flow of life. It comes with rebirth and regeneration. This stone is best placed in the Career and Life Path areas of your home because it brings with it flowing energy. The ideal spot is in the northern areas of your room.

How is Labradorite Formed

The Labradorite stone is in the Feldspar family, and it is found in mafic igneous rocks like basalt. The labradorescence in it is actually trapped light. When light enters the stone, it hits the surface and actually reflect off each other. Different colors in it are the result of the light hitting different surfaces.

How to Care for Your Labradorite

Unfortunately, Labradorite is quite fragile, and it can break upon impact. Make sure that if you are going to wear Labradorite jewelry that you aren’t performing any strenuous physical exercise where there is a likelihood of impact or pressure to the Labradorite stone. This stone also tends to scratch easily because it only has a 6 to 6.5 Mohs hardness. The Mohs hardness scale is based on its resistance to scratching. From a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest to 10 being the hardest. You need to keep this stone away from moisture and temperature changes, so steamers are out of the question. It will absorb moisture and make it prone to corrosion. Make sure to keep it in a location where it won’t bump into other stones or get scratched by other harder surfaces rubbing against it.
